If you’re willing to find out more about Jennifer Tilly and her passion for poker, then you’re just in the right place. How did she get to be a poker pro? What made her so famous? Let’s find out the answers together with some spicy details too.
Jennifer Tilly is one of those poker players which came to impress her audience through her ambition and perseverance. Her brave moves during important poker competitions brought her many prizes, including the World Series of Poker Ladies’ Bracelet prize.
2005 was a great year for Tilly. Besides the WSOP event, when she managed to beat 600 players, she also won the third World Poker Tour Ladies Invitational Tournament.
Poker TV Shows
As game shows attracted her, Tilly appeared in GSN Poker Royale series and in the Celebrity Poker Showdown, which turned out to be a great success for her.
Slowly but surely, she became more and more popular, and there is no wonder why. As some say she’s got both talent, appeal and a strong mind for the game.
Jennifer Tilly, more than a poker player
Tilly is also a skilled actress. Even though, at some point, she even stated that poker meant a lot more in her life than acting. She also had a monthly column in the Bluff Magazine. After retiring from the poker world in 2008 she wrote:
‘I love poker but greatness in poker is an elusive dream. There are too many variants. Trying to find validation in poker is like trying to find a virgin in a whorehouse. I’m not giving up poker entirely – gambling is an addiction after all. I’m just going to treat it more like a hobby and less like a career.’
Although she officially retired in 2008, she continued to play poker, but not as a career, this time as a hobby, like she said. She signed up for events and tournaments, but less often. Take a look down bellow.
Tilly’s best live cash was $158,335, while the total live earnings got to $918,598.
Among some of the best competitions she won in her poker career we must name the following:
- Ladies No-Limit Hold’em – 2005 – 1st place
- Heat 15 – 2005 – 1st place
- Ladies No Limit Hold’em Invitational – 2005 – 1st place
- Event 21 – No-Limit Hold’em – 2010 – 1st place
Jennifer Tilly and her poker-playing men
In what concerns her private life, she has always been surrounded by poker players or men who had a strong passion for poker. Maybe this inspired her later career.
She was married to Sam Simson, from 1984 -1991. Sam was a poker player himself and appeared on ‘High Stakes Poker’ – a game show. She also dated Lou Diamond Phillips, actor and poker player.
However, one of the most famous relationships that she had, was with Phil Laak, who is believed to be the one that actually taught her how to play professional poker. What do they share in common? They are both WSOP bracelet winners and they both continue to write columns for the Bluff Magazine. Over the time, there have been many gossips about the couple’s breakup, however, time proved them wrong every time.
All in all, Jennifer Tilly is a great example of a successful poker player who inspired so many throughout the time and there is no wonder why…
